SAU Dressage Team finishes second in the region

The St. Andrews University Dressage Team completed the regular season of Intercollegiate Dressage Association (IDA) as the Reserve Champion Team for the Region.

St. Andrews finished just four points behind Averett University for the region after a pair of competitions over the weekend.

“This was a rebuilding year for us,” said Coach Jackie Dwelle. “Much of the credit for the team’s success goes to Lindsey Agaliotis for serving as assistant coach and my colleagues, Carla Wennberg and Rob Jacobs, who have taught dressage lessons this year.”

Agaliotis will compete at the Nationals as an individual, having earned her spot in First Level with a first place finish Saturday and a second place finish on Sunday. Joining her will be Kristen Parker whose second place finish on Saturday qualified her for Introductory Level at nationals. She added a fourth place finish on Sunday to her ribbons.

Hannah Firth was reserve champion in Upper Training with a third place finish Saturday and a first place finish on Sunday.

“Hannah was the High Point Rider on Sunday and she deserved it in so many ways,” said Dwelle. “I am so proud of her riding at her last IDA show before graduation.”

Also adding a first place finish over the weekend was Bridget Newman on Sunday.

“Hard work does pay off and Bridget really deserved this win,” said Dwelle. “She has worked hard and is a great student, doing what I tell her.”

Brianna Carter had second and fourth place finishes over the weekend, with Sarah Jones finishing third on Sunday in her class. Logan Teeter finished fourth in Introductory Level on Saturday. Abigail Skillman had fifth and sixth place finishes over the weekend.

In the newly added Dressage Seat Equitation, Claire Pollard was fifth in Class 1 while Elizabethe Weeks was fourth in Class 2.
