Laurinburg Area Campaign to Support St. Andrews surpasses goal

Laurinburg, NC - For the 19th year, the Laurinburg Area Campaign to Support St. Andrews University has surpassed the $500,000 goal.

"We are excited to announce that we raised $506,545 through this year’s campaign,” said co-chair Jim Willis. “It has been a great experience heading this campaign and working with the amazing volunteers from this community to support the University.”

Volunteer leadership included co-chair Frances Willis, Richard Massey, Susan Covington, Mac Doubles, Frank Buie, Mike Coughenour and John Clark.

“This group of volunteers has been amazing,” said Frances Willis. “They worked very hard to get us to the goal and we appreciate everything they did.”

That appreciation extends to the University’s leadership.

“The reason for the success of the Laurinburg Area Campaign for St. Andrews every year is the commitment of an extraordinary group of dedicated volunteers,” said Paul Baldasare, campus president. “Community support means a great deal to our faculty, staff and students. This campaign reminds us each year how strong that support is.

“We are so grateful to the Willises for their leadership this year and all of the volunteers who made this campaign a success.”

As an economic engine for growth, St. Andrews is among the top five employers in Scotland County. The University attracts more than 15,000 visitors annually to the county for a variety of events ranging from open houses for potential students, the Scottish Heritage Symposium and Alumni Weekend to theatrical productions, musical performances, art shows, equestrian competitions and athletic events.

The University is also actively involved in a variety of community service efforts throughout the year – providing leadership to civic organizations and churches, volunteering in the county schools and participating in large numbers during the annual Martin Luther King Day of Service.

“Laurinburg is a better place for all of us because St. Andrews is here,” said Jim Willis. “It shapes us, informs us, and challenges us. It enhances what is good about our community. People are coming here and they know about Laurinburg because of St. Andrews. It provides us with more possibilities for our future.”
