SAU Western Team wins weekend competitions

SAU Western Team at Sept 21 2014 Show

Laurinburg, NC - The St. Andrews University Western Team earned two wins at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Western Shows over the weekend.

The team earned champion status both Saturday and Sunday in the competitions hosted at the St. Andrews Equestrian Center. North Carolina State University finished with reserve champion status both days.

“You know I am always in awe of my teams each year,” said Coach Carla Wennberg. “It seems my great leaders of the upper classman really teach the freshman early on, how to be great citizens, help each other, share, and do what is right! The lessons we learn because of the horse and responsibility and competition!”

In Saturday’s competition, first place finishes were earned by Jarret Vaughn, Cailey Culp, Conner Smith, Logan Teeter, Natasha Worker and Austin Trockenbrot. Becca Alden, Katie Mosca, Sarah Murvin, Phillip Alden and Michelle Eld earned second place in their respective divisions. Third places finishes were contributed by Kara Copeland and Erica LeSeur while Mark Mowbray finished fourth.

On Sunday, Dillon Vaughn, Katie Mosca, Jarret Vaughn, Natasha Worker, Danielle Eads, Michele Eld, Tiffany Burch and Austin Trockenbrot finished first in their respective divisions. Cailey Culp, Mark Mowbray, Katie Mosca and Logan Teeter had second place finishes. Third place finishes were contributed by Becca Alden, Kara Copeland, Alyssa Lemme, and Phillip Alden. With the winners for the weekend representing all academic classes at St. Andrews, Wennberg and assistant coach Lindsay Agaliotis are proud of the start by the team.

“This year, like others, is starting out amazing,” said Wennberg. “The freshman are on target, early season, and our region has grown with more teams to compete against, and we still have the best group of students showing and competing. I am so proud to coach for St Andrews and have the Teams with so much ability and determination!”
