General Honors Program

Do you like a challenge?

The St. Andrews General Honors Program is designed to help students rediscover the world around them. Our goal is to cultivate a community of academically-minded students, allowing each member to meet his or her full potential. In the classroom Honorifics can expect to be introduced to a rich variety of texts. Through this diversity the Honors Program helps expand a student's mind, opening it to possibilities that may otherwise have gone unrecognized. Students are called on to participate in class discussions between the professors and their peers, allowing for additional insights into the thoughts and perceptions of others. In this way, Honors is more about opening a dialogue among knowledge seeking individuals, than it is about professors giving lectures. Ultimately, the Honors Program encourages students to engage in an academic journey; one that will reshape the person they are today, by providing them with an environment where they can express their ideas and perceptions.

Those students who qualify for the St Andrews Honors Program will receive a special scholarship for each semester they remain in the program. Scholarships may vary according to high school academic and extracurricular achievements; as well as the quality of a student's work and effort in Honors.

To be accepted into the General Honors Program, and receive scholarship assistance, students must normally have an SAT score of 1200 or higher, an ACT score of 26 or higher, and a minimum high school GPA of 3.5. However, special cases can be made on a student by student basis. If you are interested in the extra challenge, and intellectual community, of the Honors Program, apply.  Some students not meeting the specific standards may be accepted on a trial basis.
