The Department of Music seeks to provide all students opportunities for scholarly exploration of our musical heritage, development and discovery of musical skills and interests, and the opportunity to experience the communal activity of music-making. In so doing, the department strives to foster an appreciation and understanding of music in our students such that they become fully engaged, life-long participants and consumers of music. Students with musical experience prior to matriculation at St. Andrews may wish to pursue a minor in Music, providing them with further exposure to the theory, history and performance of music.

As a representative of the college to the Presbyterian Church (USA), the Music Department actively solicits opportunities for the students to provide musical leadership in churches throughout the region. In addition, the Music Department engages outside performers and master teachers to visit our campus under the auspices of the Morgan Enrichment Fund and the McCoy Concert Series.

At St. Andrews you can pursue an academic Minor in Music with concentration in voice, piano, or bagpipes. Courses available to complete this 18-hour minor include:

Introduction to Music Literature
Basic Musicianship I

Basic Musicianship II
Ensemble (Choir or Pipe Band) - 5 semesters
Private Lessons - 4 semesters

Private piano, voice, guitar, and bagpipe lessons are available for credit to all interested students. Our teachers are highly trained teachers and skilled performers. You will be challenged to improve your skills and become a more skillful musician.

Class instruction is also available in piano, voice, and guitar.

If you are interested in joining the Concert Choir, please fill out this information, which will go directly to the Choir Director, Ed Williams, who can answer any questions you may have. If the Pipe Band is your area of interest, please fill out this information, which will go directly to Pipe Major William Caudill, who can answer any questions about the Pipe Band. Scholarships are available for students with strong musical skills and leadership potential who participate in the College Choir or Pipe Band. They will have all the information available about which classes to take if you are interested in music scholarships available, and future plans for the Concert Choir and Pipe Band.
