College Archives

St. Andrews University Archives

The University Archives documents the heritage of St. Andrews University and those institutions that preceded it:  Flora Macdonald College in Red Springs (1896-1961) and Presbyterian Junior College in Maxton. (1929-1961). The current Archives location on the first floor of DeTamble Library was dedicated in 2009, and provides a wonderful place to step back into our proud and rich history. We are indebted to all the alumni who have donated time, money, and materials to keep our heritage alive.

Student yearbooks, newspapers, academic catalogs, and student handbooks from Flora Macdonald College, Presbyterian Junior College and St. Andrews are now online at DigitalNC.org.

How to use our Finding Aids

To help a patron know whether a collection will be useful to his/her research, archivists describe collections (also known as "record groups") in finding aids. These finding aids may include box inventories, folder inventories, summaries, and other information.

As appears in the index:

St. Andrews College Press  SAPC 16, Box 1

In the record group list:

Visiting Special Collections and Using Materials

Researchers may visit the College Archives during the Library's regular scheduled hours. To facilitate needs and obtain assistance, researchers must make an appointment to use the resources of the Archives Collections. Contact Mary McDonald to do so.

Research via Mail, Email and Telephone

DeTamble Library does not normally provide services to researchers who are unable to personally visit the College Archives. The Director of DeTamble Library may consider a request for such service due to special circumstances. Such service, if approved and provided, will incur a cost to the requestor. The Library will provide the requestor with an estimated cost.

The mission of the College Archives is to document the heritage of St. Andrews by providing, under the authority of DeTamble Library, for the secure custody of and access to records of permanent value related to the origin and growth of the College.
